Tonight, the 2017 Las Vegas Summer League kicked off. In that league, two former Sooners are playing. Buddy Hield is taking the court with the Sacramento Kings, and Isaiah Cousins with the New Orleans Pelicans.
Buddy Hield had a solid first season in the NBA after being named to the All-Rookie First Team, and receiving Rookie of the Year votes. After he was traded to Sacramento, he averaged 15.1 points per game. In his 2017 Summer League debut tonight, he put up 16 points and 5 rebounds in a loss to the Phoenix Suns. He struggled from three, going 0-of-6 but got it going with drives to the basket and pull up jumpers.
Isaiah Cousins played in what is now known as the “NBA G-League” for the Kings affiliate team. He had great numbers, tallying 17 points and nearly 6 rebounds and 4 assists per game this past year. He caught on with the Pelicans summer league team and played 16:24 minutes tonight. Cousins had 5 points on 2-of-4 shooting to go along with 5 assists and 3 rebounds.
Both guys were prolific Sooners and we are going to cheer them on at the next level no matter what. Follow along to see how Buddy and Isaiah do the rest of the Summer League.
