In just 15 short days, the Sooners will kick off at Owen Field at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Last season, it was all about #11. This year, its #15.
Mead has big shoes to fill, as he will be taking the spot as primary Wide Receiver, after the loss of Biletnikoff Award Winner and Heisman Finalist, Dede Westbrook.
Jeffery Mead, the 6’5″ Senior from Tulsa, Oklahoma will be what makes the crowd roar. With his good hands, quick feet, and shifty moves, he is sure to be a big time scorer and pick up where Westbrook Left off.
This play from the Sooners’ 34-24 victory over Iowa State last season shows just how talented he is, and how well he can move around and juke defenders.
Mead played in eight of the Sooners’ thirteen games during the 2014 season, although he did not record any catches or touchdowns. In the 2015 season, he played in eleven of the thirteen games on the schedule. He had 6 receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown. This past season, he played nine games, seven of which he started. He had 10 receptions for 150 yards and 3 touchdowns.
His stats may not be outstanding, but its because he’s been sharing the field with NFL caliber receivers such as Sterling Shepard and Dede Westbrook. This year, its all about him. He will be Mayfield’s primary target looking downfield. Expect to watch the Jeffery Mead show, playing on September 2.
Happy 15 days till Sooner Football.
